Patriots vs Packers Preview
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and company look to keep things rolling on Sunday at him.
They just have a Bill Belichick-led New England Patriots squad standing in the way. Rodgers has a 1-1 record against the Patriots in his career since the Packers seldom face the AFC East team. Rodgers expressed his regard for Belichick leading up to the game.
“He’s a legend, a living legend, and he’s been ahead of the game for a long time,” Rodgers said on the “Pat McAfee Show” last week. “He makes incredible in-game adjustments, halftime adjustments, third-quarter adjustments, fourth-quarter adjustments, whatever it takes.”
but this Patriots squad doesn’t look like the ones Rodgers has faced in the past. These Patriots don’t have Tom Brady for starters.
New England stumbled in Week 1 at Miami but bounced back to edge a rebuilding Pittsburgh squad 17-14 in Week 2. Then, the Patriots couldn’t keep up with Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens in a 37-26 Week 3 loss.
Belichick expressed his appreciation for what Rodgers has achieved prior to Sunday’s game.
“Pretty much everything. He’s very smart. A very good athlete,” Belichick said on “The Greg Hill Show” on WEEI. “He’s got very good quickness and the ability to avoid and escape guys in the pocket to extend plays. Really no weaknesses with the player at all. Tremendous amount of experience in game situation management. He’s as good as there is.”
“Glad he’s in the NFC and haven’t had to face him more than he had because he’s always been a problem,” Belichick added. :And looks like he’s playing extremely well again as he always does. It’ll be a big challenge for us defensively this week. Not just him, but [Aaron] Jones and the entire offense. It’s a good offensive team. They’re well coached. They have a lot of good players, and they have a great, great quarterback.”
Green Bay comes into the game fresh off of a win over Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Rodgers shredded the Bucs secondary with a short passing game in the first half, and the Packers held on in the second half for a 14-12 victory.
